Today is the big day. Get up early morning to a sumptuous breakfast at the lodge after which shortly you will be transferred to the Magnificent Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
Here at the park gate where you will be briefed on the Gorilla trek by the Uganda Wildlife Authorities. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was declared a World Heritage site in 1994 because of its incredible biodiversity. This forest protects about half of the remaining 1050 Mountain Gorillas.
Once a trekking group encounters one of the gorilla families, only one hour is granted in the presence of the great apes before trekkers must leave, however reluctantly.
Be aware that the trek can be strenuous and may reach altitudes of almost 2,000 meters above sea level. Depending on weather conditions, some of the paths can be slippery and these paths themselves can change depending on the location of the gorillas. Therefore, it is extremely hard to predict how long you will need to walk for, but an exceptionally proficient level of fitness is recommended for this trek. You can usually get remarkably close to the mountain gorillas, and seeing their movements is like seeing a mirror image of yourself. Trekking can take less than 2hours.
From a safe distance, watch them eat, sleep, groom, and play – the giant silverback surveying and guarding the scene. Enjoy a packed lunch in the wilderness.
The lodge will park for you lunch which you will enjoy later in the day as you trek Mountain Gorillas
This is the highlight experience for your safari in Uganda.
Optional Activities:
Cultural Experience by the Batwa Pygmies and Garama Cave
Depending on the time you finish trekking gorillas you can visit the Batwa and experience pure culture and ancient ways of life of the Batwa, a forest tribe of pygmies. They lived in Mgahinga National Park for over three centuries, a time during which they became a part of the forest, and it became a part of them. This came to an end in 1991 when Government evicted them from the park to conserve its critically endangered mountain gorillas. During this tour, they will treat you to various survival adaptions they embraced while still residents in the forest to outlive extinction.
You will be amazed by their energetic dances, fire making and hunting skills as complimented using handmade weapons like spears. They will teach you how they used to build traditional tree houses using eco-friendly materials. This was usually done with the intent of avoiding beastly mammals that roamed the floor of the forest. Such include like forest buffaloes, mountain leopards and forest elephants.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and Dinner
Today early in the morning, 3am prepare for your flight at 6am to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport we shall be transferred to Wilson Airport along Langata Road in Nairobi for the domestic flight to Masai Mara National Reserve.
Upon arrival we shall be received by the Ilkeliani Camp driver who will be our guide at the reserve.
Masai Mara National Reserve
The Serengeti–Maasai Mara ecosystem is, amongst much else, famed for the dramatic migration of its 1,000,000-plus wildebeest and 750,000-or-so zebras with hooves pounding the plains and the intense attention that migration gets from predators, both mammalian and reptilian.
Up here in the system’s north, the landscapes are grandly varied but tend to be greener (which is why the migration heads up here, in search of water), with less savannah than in the south.
Ilkeliani Camp
We will be staying in the newly rebuilt Ilkeliani Camp right on the ages of the Talek river in the mara. The old camp was swept away by the floods of 2020 when the Talek river broke its banks.
The new camp is modern in design with raised decks but complementing the surrounding environment. The colors, fabrics and materials will have neutral tones keeping with the sweeping savannahs of the Mara.
The well-appointed large spacious En-suite facilities plus the extensive private veranda complete what is genuinely a stunning concept.
From our dining area, we serve a full English breakfast, a 3-course lunch and dinner. Tea and Coffee is also available.
