Diani Beach voted Africa’s leading beach destination 5 times running since 2015 is a major beach on the Kenyan coast 30km South of Mombasa in Kwale County. It is a 17km long stretch of pristine white sandy beaches.
Diani/Ukunda town forms part of the larger Mombasa Metropolitan area with a population of about 100,000 residents. The indigenous people of this coastal town belong to the Mijikenda ethnic community, but Tourism jobs have since attracted people from all walks of life including Europeans running many of the exclusive resorts along the beach.
Diani beach is serviced by Ukunda Airstrip a small local airstrip facilitating other areas such as Tiwi and Msambweni.

Fort Jesus was built by the Portuguese primarily as military fortification and a slaves trading center. In 2011 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and highlighted as one of the most outstanding and well-preserved examples of the of 16th-century Portuguese military fortifications. The nearby old town gives a glimpse into the Ancient and Medieval times architecture of the old city.
The founding of Mombasa is associated with two rulers: Mwana Mkisi and Shehe Mvita back in the 900AD according to Kenyan School History.
